Windsor Unites Cultures at International Mother Language Festival
Windsor, ON - The Bangladesh Canada Association of Windsor Essex hosted the International Mother Language Festival 2026 on February 7, highlighting linguistic rights and celebrating cultural diversity. The festival gained renewed significance this year after Canada passed legislation in 2023 recognizing February 21 as International Mother Language Day.
Held at the Caboto Club, the festival brought together nearly 350 attendees with roots in 21 different countries, along with several multicultural organizations. Association President Jalal Uddin welcomed guest speakers MP Harb Gill (Windsor West) and MPP Lisa Gretzky (Windsor West), who expressed their appreciation for the effort to support cultural and community unity. Representatives from the Consulate General of Bangladesh and the Mother Language Lovers of the World Society were also in attendance.




The festival featured cultural performances that showcased the richness of world languages and cultures. Artists took the stage representing Bangladesh and Canada, as well 18 other Asian, African and Caribbean countries.
The festival continues to be a strong platform for unity, reflecting Windsor’s ongoing commitment to multiculturalism and multilingualism.
