Shah Bahauddin: an emerging candidate – Kabir Chowdhury

I have had the pleasure of befriending an amazing individual. I was arranging a solo concert in Ottawa with local artists in 2013; however, to be able to do so at a prestigious theater is very difficult and merely impossible without the help of the community. On my journey to collect a few sponsorships, I was able to get into contact with Shah Bahauddin. He is in the Real Estate Business and has been doing tremendously well. He had offered his services to take part in sponsoring the program. I was astonished for a few seconds! Immediately I knew I could not give up on such a great opportunity and accepted his offer. From then on, we became very close friends and continued to maintain a wonderful relationship.

Shah Bahauddin is Bangladeshi-Canadian. Mr. Bahauddin was born in Bangladesh and at the age of 19, he left Dhaka to study Engineering at Vladimir State University, Russia. From there he was able to obtain his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer engineering. After completing his studies in Russia, he and his wife moved to Texas, USA (1998) for two years. He decided in 2000 it was time for a permanent move, thus Shah Bahauddin and his wife came to Canada as skilled immigrants and settled in Ottawa.

Bahauddin was the perfect sponsor as he was aware of the challenges and concerns of those in the community. During his first years in Ottawa, he initially worked as an Engineer in various hi-tech companies, and later attended the University of Ottawa where he completed his master’s degree in engineering management. For the past eight years, however, he has been employed as a real estate agent with Royal LePage based in Nepean. His position as a realtor has given him a thorough understanding and awareness of our diverse community with the challenges and concerns that we are facing.

Shah Bahauddin is a very active member of the community and partakes in activities and mainstream politics. He has been involved with the Ontario Liberal Party and continues to support both the Nepean and Carleton Provincial Liberal Riding Associations. Presently, he is the President of the Bangladesh-Canada Association of Ottawa Valley. In addition to this, he spends his time volunteering for the South Nepean Muslim Center (SNMC), Mother Teresa High School, co-hosts at CHIN radio and is currently the Director of Implementation, International Mother Language Day (IMLD) in an organization called "Mother Language Lovers of the World Society"; which actively promotes awareness and the preservation of mother tongues around the world.

As many of you already know, Shah Bahauddin is seeking a nomination for the Ontario Liberal Party. He will be a part of the upcoming Nomination Election which is scheduled next year. I urge everyone to register for a free membership to become an Ontario Liberal Party member in the Riding of Nepean and chose Shah Bahauddin as your candidate.

In Ottawa, we have very few energetic individuals who are actively participating in either provincial or federal politics. However, Mr. Bahauddin is one of them, and as a Bangladeshi Canadian I am writing this article to extend my congratulations, as well as saying how proud I am of his actions.
