Community Leader Sailesh Deb Remembered for Kindness and Dedication

The Bangladeshi community in Ottawa came together to bid farewell to Sailesh Deb, a respected community leader, whose final rites were performed at Pinecrest Cemetery on July 17. The rites were led by Manu Haldar of Montreal and was attended by the members of the community. In a heartfelt tribute, his son Sunny Deb shared fond memories of him.
Mr. Deb passed away on July 13, 2025 at the age of 64 due to complications from heart and kidney disease. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, including his wife Manju Deb, sons Subro Deb and Sunny Deb, and daughter Money Deb.


Born in 1960 in Moulvibazar, Sailesh Deb immigrated to Montreal in 1993 and settled in Ottawa in 1998. A successful entrepreneur, he was a partner of the Light of India restaurant before founding the popular Golden India restaurant on McArthur Ave.
Mr. Deb served as President of the Hindu Cultural Society of Ottawa and was an active member of the Advisory Council of the Bangladesh-Canada Association of the Ottawa Valley (BACAOV). Sailesh Deb Known for his warm personality and dedication, he played an important role in community activities.
A commemoration of life in his memory will be held on July 27, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 63 Grenfell Crescent, Nepean open to all who wish to pay their respects.
His legacy of kindness, leadership, and cultural pride will continue to inspire the Bengali community in Ottawa.
